Liz and Cujo’s Renaissance Wedding
Liz & Cujo got married at the Grand Affairs in Virginia Beach in a Renaissance Themed Wedding Ceremony and Reception! The wedding was Halloween Weekend and everyone showed up in costume…including me.
The Coolest Wedding Vows EVER, Renaissance Style!!!!
Lady Elizabeth, you are the most gracious and lovely one that Lord Casey has ever seen, for he understands the essence of thy true self. The beauty which radiates around thee can only be rivaled by the beauty which radiates from within thee. The pledge of his sword is a pledge of his soul. It is his prowess, his fire, his passion, his strength and courage. It is his ability to protect, defend and care for thee. With the strength of his blade and the endurance of its steel to represent what is in his heart, take from him now, as his beloved, the ring that rests upon it, and choose him to be your own.
Lord Casey, in the eyes of this woman thou art the only man in the world. Yours is the voice of sound reason and unwavering support. You are the spark to the bonfire of her passions and yours are the arms in which she wouldst lay down to rest. The pledge of her chalice is the pledge of all that is within her. Her felicity and devotion. The place in her heart where two souls can be sheltered and nourished, that they may grow together, ever closer, and flourish as the leaves on the trees and the fruits of the vine. As the depth and bounty of her chalice foretell the richness of your future together, take from her now the band that lies within, and do choose her as thy own.
Elizabeth and Casey, together as you light this candle of unity, you symbolize the flame of your own individual selves joining to ignite the partnership of marriage.
Crazy Cake Cutting…with a Guillotine!!!
I was lucky enough to work in partnership with some fabulous wedding professionals, including my old friend Peter Merry (the court jester) and my new friend, Rev. Tony who presided over the ceremony in a humorous and loving fashion. He even went to the trouble of getting proper vestments for the occasion.
Setting the Stage: Wedding Reception at Ford’s Colony
Kris and Shelley celebrate their marriage at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg, VA after winning The Inspired Bride’s, Be Inspired Bridal Show’s $25,000 Dream Wedding giveaway from Williamsburg Wedding Pros back in February 2015!
To begin with, I’d like to acknowledge all the wedding professionals who donated their time and talent to make the Dream Wedding a reality. First, it couldn’t have been possible without the generous contribution of a wedding ceremony and reception site that included catering provided by Ford’s Colony and managed by Director of Catering, Brittany Rice. The club was gorgeous as always and the staff couldn’t have been nicer!
Wedding Reception in the Garden Pavilion
Wedding Ceremony in Ford’s Colony Dining Room
Full Service Event Planning was provided by Kelly Coronel and her associate Ashton Hathaway of Inspired Events by Kelly, who worked tirelessly to insure even the most minute details were considered and taken care of, including encouraging moving the ceremony inside just days before the wedding when it was obvious the temperatures were going to be well of 100 degrees! Kelly even chose to include many of her decor items free of charge, just to make sure the reception had that special “zing”! Everything looked absolutely amazing and flowed seamlessly!
The wedding cake was not only gloriously designed by Alice Cooke at Cakealicious, but it was absolutely scrumptious! And, just for those detail oriented people…the cute Flower Girl’s ruffled white dresses perfectly matched the confection! (Scroll back up to the first picture to see…)
The centerpieces, corsages, bouquets and boutonnieres were donated by Arlene Aitken-Williams of Morrison’s Flowers , and the colors just popped in the white background of the Garden Pavilion at Ford’s Colony.
Jeff Bristow of Colonial DJs donated Uplighting and his Photo Booth, which was a huge hit throughout the night, as Shelley and Kris collected fantastic blackmail material on their adult-beverage loving guests!
My favorite local chanteuse, Jocelyn Oldham, who has the most amazing voice…EVER, shared her talent during the cocktail hour! If you’ve not heard her sing, check out her schedule online…it’ll be worth the trip!
Wedding photographs are one of the most important aspects of the wedding day, capturing specific moments in time as families combine and expand. These photos are shared with generation after generation, so how lucky it was that the entire day was chronicled by local photographer extraordinaire, Kelly Mihalcoe, who was with Kris and Shelley all day long, making sure their memories were lovingly captured. Be sure to keep an eye out on her blog to see all the professional shots!
Wedding DJ Entertainment
And finally, DJ Entertainment and Master of Ceremonies services for the ceremony and reception were provided by Liz Daley Events. The ceremony went flawlessly, as they chose contemporary music to begin with as Kris, the bridesmaids and groomsmen entered to “Giving It All To You” by Haley & Michaels, but chose the traditional “Canon in D” as performed by The Boccherini Guitar Quartet for Shelley’s entrance with her father.
The reception began with personalized introductions of the bridal party that lovingly roasted them as they entered the room to a song chosen especially for them by Kris and Shelley! This started the evening out with lots of fun and energy!
First Dance: “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran
Father/Daughter Dance: “Unforgettable” – Duet Version by Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole
Mother/Song Dance: “A Mother’s Song” by T. Carter Music
Last Dance: “The Story” by Brandi Carlisle
Time to Celebrate & Party!
The guests were ready to party and everyone had a fantastic time and even though most had to work on Monday morning, when the last song played, they were not ready for the night to end! Shelley & Kris departed their celebration through a tunnel of sparklers while “Disco Inferno” played in the background!

Budget Wedding in Hampton Roads for less than $12,000
If you want to have a fun personalized wedding reception with great wedding entertainment, but you don’t have big bucks. It takes a lot more planning and a lot more work, but it can be done! You just have to figure out what is most important to you, and spend the money there. Then you will have a lot of D.I.Y. activities in the areas where you don’t have much of a budget. Most importantly, you will have to compromise on some items, and that isn’t fun, but it is a necessity in order to stay within your budget.

FINAL BILL: $11,500
Save the Date
If you want HUGE SAVINGS! Have your wedding on an “off” day like Friday or Sunday or during the “off” months, like November to March, when most weddings professionals are not very busy.
Getting married on a Sunday, you can have your ceremony at a regularly scheduled Mass and save money
Decide what is MOST IMPORTANT to you. If it’s a great party, then spend a large portion of your budget on Wedding Entertainment. (like the bride above)
Choose a venue that will allow you to get your own ABC license and provide your own alcohol. (In the Williamsburg area, that is The Freight Shed, The Community Building and Legacy Hall) These properties are also relatively inexpensive to rent for the day.
Choose “yummy” food that everyone loves, like BBQ. Your guests are full, and you won’t break the bank.
Photography & Videography
If you choose and “off” day or “month” and only need minimal editing, and don’t need the fancy books, you can probably negotiate a very good deal.
